What Blizzard Confirmed

Speaking to MMORPG at BlizzCon 2026, senior game designer Josh Greenfield confirmed the team is not simply porting a handful of quests across. Some Season of Discovery class content has already made it into Forever, some has been expanded, and entirely new questlines have been written alongside it.

Greenfield described class questlines as something the team became genuinely attached to after Season of Discovery, and said more are firmly on the plan for the near future – helped considerably by the fact that Forever is not built to a fixed content window.

The phrasing matters here. Anything that missed the launch build is not cancelled, only deferred – a project with no end date has room to keep adding class content indefinitely.

Why This Content Worked

Season of Discovery’s class quests solved a problem Classic has always had: outside of a handful of famous chains, most classes had very little that belonged to them alone. The rune hunts and weapon questlines gave every class a reason to explore, and gave players something to discuss that was not a spreadsheet.

Bringing that into a permanent project rather than a seasonal one changes the value considerably. In Season of Discovery, everything you earned had an expiry date attached. In Forever, the characters persist – which means a class questline is an investment rather than a temporary diversion.

What This Suggests for Launch

Read alongside the other BlizzCon 2026 details, a consistent picture emerges. Forever is not trying to be Season of Discovery with the serial numbers filed off – the more radical experiments, such as tanking shamans and healing mages, are staying out for accessibility reasons.

What it is taking is the content design underneath those experiments: the questlines, the discovery, the sense that your class has its own story running parallel to the world’s. That is a more conservative inheritance than some players wanted, but it is also the part that had the broadest appeal.
