Winds of Mysterious Fortune: 500 Free Trader's Tender and a 20% XP Buff
Blizzard has dropped one of the easiest reward events Midnight has offered so far. Winds of Mysterious Fortune asks almost nothing of you - log in on five separate days and 500 Trader’s Tender lands in your pocket - but the buffs running underneath it are the part actually worth planning around.
The 500 Trader’s Tender Reward

The headline reward is a Feat of Strength called Winds of Particularly Mysterious Fortune. The requirements are as forgiving as they get:
- Log in on five different days during the event window - any character, on any realm
- Deadline is 23 September at 1:00 PM PT, when the achievement stops tracking
- Collect the reward from the Collector’s Cache chest, then spend it at the Trading Post
Five days spread across a two-week window is not a daily login system in the punishing sense - you can miss most of the event and still qualify - but the days must be distinct. Logging in five times on a Saturday does nothing. Full details are in Wowhead’s Winds of Mysterious Fortune breakdown.
The Buffs Are the Real Prize
The Tender is free money, but the global buffs are what make this window genuinely useful if you have a bench of half-finished alts.
- 20% bonus experience from level 10 to 89, applied automatically at login
- 50% bonus reputation with factions worldwide, excluding Zul’jarra’s Forces and Captain Tokka’s Crew
- Mysterious Satchels from kills and quest completions on characters below level 90
The reputation buff is the underrated half. Applying to old-world factions means this is the cheapest fortnight of the year for clearing out long-abandoned reputation grinds - the ones attached to mounts, tabards and pet collections you gave up on three expansions ago.
Mysterious Satchels Explained

While questing on any character below level 90, satchels drop from creatures and arrive as bonus quest rewards. Inside you will find temporary stat boosts, visual alterations, a chance at bonus gear appropriate to your level and specialisation, and - most importantly - 10% experience potions.
Those potions stack with the global 20% buff for a combined 30%, and they are Warbound. That means you can drink them now or bank them for other level 10-89 characters after the event has finished, which makes them considerably more valuable than they first appear.
One detail worth knowing: the first satchel you earn each day is upgraded to Pristine quality, with a better chance at the valuable rewards inside. If you are levelling casually, a short daily session to trigger the Pristine drop is worth more than a single long marathon at the weekend.
How to Get the Most Out of the Window
With the event more than half over, priorities matter. A sensible order:
- Secure the five login days first - it costs you nothing and the deadline is fixed
- Push your furthest-along alt rather than starting fresh, since 20% on a level 70 character converts into far more finished progress than 20% on a level 15
- Bank every experience potion you do not immediately need, because Warbound means they survive the event
- Run old-world reputations you have been putting off while the 50% buff is live
- Log in once a day for the Pristine satchel, even if you only play for ten minutes
If the buff window is closing faster than your schedule allows, a WoW powerlevelling carry gets an alt to max level while the bonuses are still active, rather than leaving it stranded at level 60 for another few months.
FAQ
WHEN DOES WINDS OF MYSTERIOUS FORTUNE END?
The event runs from 8 to 22 September, beginning and ending with the weekly realm restarts. The achievement itself tracks until 23 September at 1:00 PM PT.
DO THE FIVE LOGIN DAYS NEED TO BE CONSECUTIVE?
No. Any five separate days within the event window will do, on any character. They simply have to be different days.
DOES THE EXPERIENCE BUFF WORK UP TO LEVEL 90?
It applies from level 10 to 89, so the final level of the climb is unbuffed. The satchel potions carry the same restriction.
WHICH REPUTATIONS ARE EXCLUDED FROM THE 50% BUFF?
Zul’jarra’s Forces and Captain Tokka’s Crew. Everything else worldwide benefits, including older expansion factions.
CAN I SAVE THE EXPERIENCE POTIONS FOR LATER?
Yes. They are Warbound and can be consumed after the event ends on any character between levels 10 and 89, which makes hoarding them a reasonable strategy.
WHERE DO I ACTUALLY CLAIM THE 500 TENDER?
From the Collector’s Cache chest once the Feat of Strength completes. From there it spends like any other Trader’s Tender at the Trading Post.
