Class Tuning Arrives With the Weekly Reset
Blizzard has posted class tuning for the weekly reset, and it is one of the wider passes we have had this season. Almost everything here is a buff, which fits the pattern they have described before: nerf the outliers early, lift the strugglers as the season settles.
If you have been sitting on an alt waiting for a reason, a few of these are that reason.
The big winners
Frost Death Knight gets the most aggressive pass in the notes: Howling Blast main target damage up 15%, Obliterate up 15%, Frost Strike up 20% and melee damage up 10%. Blizzard specifically called out single target and two-target cleave as the target, which is exactly where Frost has been struggling.
Protection Paladin is the other standout, with Blaze of Glory damage up 150%, Consecration up 30% and Divine Guidance up 30%. That is a tank damage buff aimed squarely at dungeons, where Prot has been falling behind the other tanks.
Druids across the board
Every Druid spec touches this pass. Shred damage is up 10% baseline. Balance gets 4% to all ability damage outside PvP. Feral gets 5% to ability damage, 10% to auto-attacks and 10% to Ferocious Bite, with Blizzard noting Feral has been underperforming particularly in raid. Restoration takes 4% to all healing.
Healers and the rest
Mistweaver gets 5% more healing plus a tier set improvement — the Venomous Abyss 4-piece activation chance goes from 20% to 25%. Windwalker picks up 4% ability damage outside PvP.
Elsewhere: Havoc takes 4% ability damage. Vengeance gets a defensive pass, with Demonic Wards now reducing damage taken by 15% instead of 12%, Void Reaver's Frailty going to 6% from 5%, and Fel Devastation healing up 25%. Beast Mastery and Survival Hunters both gain 7% to all damage from themselves and their pets, though Survival's is only 3% in PvP. Fire Mage takes 3% and Frost Mage 6%. Discipline Priest gets a 20% cut to Shadow Mend's mana cost.
The one clear nerf: the Gladiator's Distinction set bonus now grants 5% primary stat for healing specialisations, down from 10%. Blizzard's reasoning is that healers are topping targets off too fast and dragging match lengths out. There is a separate raft of PvP-only adjustments across Mage barriers, Rogue defensives, Feral, Restoration Druid, Elemental Shaman and Warrior utility, so check the full notes if you are pushing rating.
Does this change your key pushing?
Probably less than the percentages suggest. A 4% to 7% lift moves you within a tier, not across one, and the Prot Paladin and Frost DK numbers look bigger than they will feel in practice. What it does do is make a handful of specs viable that people had written off, which is usually the actual point.
The more honest bottleneck for most people is not tuning, it is gear. A buffed spec in half-finished gear still gets declined from keys.
