Mythic Coiled Altar Just Took a Massive Nerf — Every Change Listed
When Echo, Method and Liquid all spend roughly a day on the same encounter, a nerf is coming. Blizzard delivered, and it is not subtle — Mythic Coiled Altar has been cut down across the board, with phase 2 and phase 3 both getting easier.
If your guild has been staring at this boss and wondering whether to keep pulling or wait, the answer just changed.
Every change in the hotfix
Blizzard's tuning pass covers four separate things:
Veil of Twilight shield reduced by 20%. Malacrass bonus health in phase 3 reduced to 19%, down from 35%. Zul'jan bonus health in phase 3 reduced to 156%, down from 160%. Spiteful Soulcoiler health reduced.
On top of that, the phase 2 enrage — Mass Dreadmarch — now happens later, which is the change most likely to matter for groups that were dying to the timer rather than to mechanics.
The Malacrass health cut is the headline. Going from 35% bonus health to 19% takes a serious chunk out of the phase everyone was wiping in, and the later enrage gives you room to actually use it.
Why this race has been so slow
Some context for how rough this tier has been. Week 1 ended with Method leading at Mythic 5/9, with Liquid and Echo on 4/9. Wowhead's analysis puts that as the slowest opening week since Liberation of Undermine — most tiers see the top guilds clear at least seven Mythic bosses before the reset.
Part of that is deliberate. Liquid and Echo ran heavy Mythic splits rather than chasing the leaderboard, trading a short-term position for long-term gear. But part of it is that Normal and Heroic were both harder than expected this tier, which pushed everyone's entry into Mythic back by days.
Here is the part that affects normal guilds more than the nerf does. The usual pattern is that a boss gets tuned down shortly after the race guilds kill it. Mythic Sszorak has a tight damage check and had not fallen to Liquid or Echo before the weekly reset, so it did not get the customary post-kill pass.
The expectation is that a lot of non-race guilds are going to hit that wall this week. Blizzard has done mid-week nerfs before — Heroic Ula'tek got one, and Stix Bunkjunker got two back in Undermine — so it may still come, but nobody should plan their week around it arriving.
What to do with the nerf
If Coiled Altar was your wall, go back tonight. The phase 3 health reduction plus the later enrage changes the fight from a hard damage race into something a well-organised group can execute. If Sszorak is your wall, that is a different conversation and it may be worth reordering your night around individual bosses rather than grinding one encounter into the ground.
